The Blessing of Brokenness!
While listening to a tape by Paul Cain on brokenness, God opened my eyes to the significance of the miracle of the loaves in Mark 8:14. All these years, when I’ve read this account, I have sided with the disciples! I didn’t understand the miracle of the loaves and why God has always hated leaven.
When Jesus warned of the leaven of the Pharisees, Sadducees, or Herodians it was basically because levin only does one thing – it swells the bread. But Jesus makes it very clear the bread is not to be swelled; IT IS TO BE BROKEN! We are not to live our lives stretching our resources and appearance to meet the need of humanity. We are to allow ourselves to be broken in and by the Spirit, for then GOD STEPS IN AND MULIPLIES.
One loaf is always enough in the hand of God. This same principle is repeated in John 12:23. The corn (kernel) of wheat must fall into the ground and die, in order to bear much fruit. Jesus grieved at the epitome of man’s definition of success, for it was just leavened bread! He came along and taught us something different about bread. IT MUST BE BROKEN.
The disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:30-32 finally recognized Jesus in the way he broke the bread. How did Jesus handle the bread? Jesus said this bread is my body broken for you! For God’s glory, His resurrection life to be manifest in our mortal flesh, OUR BREAD MUST BE BROKEN! Oh, the joys of the brokenness of God! The deep, rich blessing spoken in scripture of brokenness!
Is.57:15 – For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
